Bosch KGD36VI30G review
Review: October 2015 | ||
![]() Rating: In a nutshell: The Bosch KGD36VI30G fridge-freezer is beautifully built, with a gorgeous stainless steel finish. It's extremely energy efficient, with an A++ efficiency rating, and good overall storage capacity. This model has the advantage of a chilled water dispenser, although the water tank has to be refilled manually, and takes up valuable fridge storage space. |
Design & features
The Bosch KGD36VI30G is one of the nicest-looking fridge-freezers you can install in your kitchen. Finished in gorgeous stainless steel with an anti-fingerprint easy-clean coating, and with an integrated chilled water dispenser, it's the ideal feature for a modern kitchen.
The appliance is very well made, and the doors have practical aluminium handles, making them quite easy to open. Inside, the amount of storage space on offer is good, although there isn't quite as much space as it seems at first glance.
The freezer section is relatively small, and is divided into three drawers. The fridge section above has 4 glass shelves, a large full-width salad box at the bottom, a metal bottle rack, and an upper chiller box, which is intended for meat and fish.
Door storage is less satisfactory however, because of the built-in water tank. This compromises the amount of space for bottles, etc, quite significantly. We also found that the tank itself is quite tricky to fill. The tank is compatible with Brita water filters.
The freezer and fridge sections are completely frost-free and can be independently controlled. The fridge has an interior LED light, and the controls and LED temperature display are also placed inside the fridge, along the top edge. A multiflow air system ensures the circulation of air around the fridge, avoiding warm and cold spots.
Efficiency, noise & reliability
The Bosch KGD36VI30G scores particularly highly for energy efficiency, with an A++ rating. This makes it one of the cheapest fridge-freezers to run (it's actually the most frugal fridge-freezer we've reviewed to date.) It's only averagely quiet however.
Bosch has a very good reputation for reliability, and the solid build of this model reassures us that it's been made to last. While it's impossible to make any promises, we'd say that this is very likely to outlast the 4-year average lifespan of a typical fridge-freezer.
Conclusion - stunning looks, but cramped space
The Bosch KGD36VI30G definitely has winning looks, with its stunning stainless steel exterior and water dispenser making it the perfect design feature for a modern kitchen. The water dispenser is a nice bonus feature, once you get the hang of refilling the water tank. It's extremely energy efficient too, saving significant amounts on your annual electricity bill. Its frost-free action makes it convenient to use, and it ought to be a reliable machine too.
On paper, it offers good amounts of storage, but in practice, the water tank in the fridge door limits this. It's also a little noisier than we'd ideally like.
