Miele WDB020 review
Review: September 2017 | ||
![]() Rating: In a nutshell: The Miele WDB020 Eco is the most affordable of Miele's 2017 range of washing machines. Expensive by most standards, it nevertheless offers excellent value for money. Miele's products are famous for reliability, and the WDB020 is a well-designed appliance that's easy to use, very energy efficient and quiet. |
Design
Miele is steadily shedding its old-fashioned look and bringing in a new generation of modern-looking appliances. The Miele WDB020 has classic looks and a flat panel design, but with an LED display, smart door surround and sleek control display, it will fit well in a modern kitchen.
As ever, Miele's washing machines are bullet-proof, and the WDB020 has a finish that is just top quality. The enamel front is scratch, acid and corrosion resistant and is easy to clean too.
The rotary selector dial is very easy to use, and the display panel is clear and uncluttered. The dispenser drawer has an AutoClean function and is rinsed clean by jets of water after each wash. This is the perfect machine for anyone who wants life to be easy and trouble free.
Washing and performance
The machine has a 7kg washing capacity - big enough for most families, although many machines these days can handle 8kg or even 9kg loads. The device automatically recognises the load and adjusts the wash accordingly.
The wash programmes include Cottons, Wool, Shirts, Denims, Outwerwear, and an Express 20 quick wash. A separate rinse programmes is also available. You can choose between regular detergent or the CapDosing function. Miele's patented honeycomb drum is designed to provide a soft surface which protects your clothing during washing.
The machine is rated B for spin, and can reach speeds up to 1400rpm.
The machines carries an A+++ energy rating, which is pretty much standard across the board for washing machines in 2017. Cold and low temperatues washes are available. Perhaps more noteworthy is the fact that this is one of the quietest washing machines you can buy, although some of Miele's more expensive machines are even quieter.
Reliability
It's a Miele, so reliability and durability can be taken as read. It's obvious from inspecting this appliance that it's been built to last, and in fact all Miele washing machines are tested for 10,000 operating hours - the equivalent of 20 years of use.
Conclusion - not cheap, but very safe
Washing machines these days tend to be all-singing and all-dancing. They have flash designs, a myriad of functions, and hi-tech control panels to grab your attention. The Miele WDB020 is rather understated. But don't underestimate it.
This machine is superbly crafted, designed to be durable, easy to use, quiet in use, and to get your clothes clean time after time.
If you're of the opinion that a washing machine should clean clothes well and not cause any trouble, then the Miele WDB020 is a machine designed with you in mind.

Recent purchase having had a Miele Premier 300 for 14 trouble free
years.
Washes well enough. Annoying issue is that it
always has water left on top of seal at end of cycle and this dribbles
down the front of washer when door is opened. Would not expect this of
£600+ machine. Manufacturer response thus far a bit poor.
