Samsung UE55MU6400 review
Review: June 2017 | ||
![]() Rating: In a nutshell: We're very excited by the Samsung UE55MU6400. It's one of the best value 55-inch TVs we've ever seen, giving everything that most users will want from a big screen, for well under £1,000. For that money you get a premium-look TV with 4K HDR, superb Smart TV and excellent connectivity. It's a bargain! |
MU6400 - A super-value big TV
In 2017 there's a fair likelihood that the Samsung MU6400 will turn out to be the UK's bestselling 55-inch TV. Samsung TVs are as popular as ever, and the MU6400 is positioned just at the sweet spot where it will appeal to the most buyers.
Already the price has dropped to around £900 from major retailers, and it could go even lower in time for Black Friday 2017. That's astonishingly good value for a 55-inch screen, and especially one as good as this.
For your money, you get a very stylish television with a slim metal frame and practical Y-stand making it look better than many models costing a lot more. The One Remote Control lets you control all your Samsung AV devices with a single controller, and the TV connects well with other devices including phones and tablets. Picture quality is very good, with 4K HDR available to take advantage of the latest content on Netflix and Amazon Instant Video. Like most Samsung televisions, the screen is punchy, with active crystal colour giving it impressively rich and bright images and lots of shadow detail.
Samsung's 2017 Smart TV is superb, with Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, YouTube, and catch-up services from the BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, and My5. Online gaming is also available.
You'd need to spend a lot more to move up to the superior Samsung MU7000, and for most families there's just no need to. Read our detailed review of the 49-inch version of the Samsung MU6400 to find out more.

You'll need to look at the MU7000 or higher for 10-bit

This is an awesome TV Sharp picture vibrant colours, blacks so dark
you'll think it's turned off, Hdr takes the colours to a new level and
the latest firmware update has improved picture quality a bit more.
Fast menu with easy controls and most settings out of the box are
satisfactory, speak to the remote to command almost any function the
TV has is a nice touch and smart functions are cool.
However
the anynet+ is not perfect and not all devices connected to my yamaha
rxv381 via hdmi will automatically switch over, at times there's a
picture but no sound and coming out of game mode can cause the screen
to crash on occasion!
Also it says 10 bit but it's not true 10
bit, playing xbox 1 in 10 bit will cause the screen to go black
occasionally, not good for COD but setting xbox to 8 bit fixes it.
Overall great value for money but comes with some glitches if your
trying to get the most out of the TV.

Fantastic tv ! UHD is sharp and so lifelike it's like being there. The
menus are lightning fast and intuitive. HDR is amazing with bright
light blinding you and the deepest blacks.
I use Sky Q and the
UHD IS SUPER IMPRESSIVE!! Also up scaled hd is near UHD Quality. I
also have my Marantz amp plugged in via Optical and you can select DTS
or Dolby Digital in tv sound output. 5/5 Outstanding 👍
