Sony KDL-50W755C review

 Review: August 2015

Rating: 4 stars

In a nutshell: The Sony KDL-50W755C is a first-rate 50-inch TV that offers tremendous value for money. It misses out on UHD and 3D, but it's a stylish looker with superb picture quality and all the benefits of Android 5.0 Smart TV.

The Sony KDL-50W755C is almost identical to the Sony KDL-50W805C, except that the 50W755C lacks 3D viewing. If you won't miss the 3D capability, then you can save around £100, picking up a top-value 50-inch Android TV for less than £700!

The 50W755C features an ultra narrow frame with a matching stand. It's an ultraslim TV, with an LED Sony logo below the screen, and has great looks. It's very energy-efficient too.

Picture quality is seriously good, with deep blacks, plenty of contrast, and good motion handling. Viewing angles are also very wide for a VA-type LCD panel.

The TV comes with the benefits of Android TV, with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed. This gives a lot of Smart TV functionality, although as we noted in our review of the 50W805C, some of this functionality isn't fully available yet, and Sony is rolling out updates regularly.

Overall, the W75C range offers fantastic value for money, and the 50-inch model is one of our recommended buys for 2015.

This TV has no VGA input slot. So now I'm supposed to buy a new computer too it seems. Maybe having all this money to buy this TV means to those people that I'm rich and can also afford the latest in laptops. On the other hand it has a scart input. Who used scart cables these days?

Such a disappointment and too late to give it back...

? What kind of computer are you using that doesn't have HDMI output? It's been pretty standard on laptops for years now.

You are buying a tv not a monitor, this TV is a smart TV so you can do most of the stuff you want on it without needing to connect your laptop or you can install chrome on your laptop and mirror the screen. As for VGA, that standard has already been buying out for some years now. It might be worth considering a new laptop, even the cheaper ones have HDMI.I personally dont think the absence of a VGA slot warrants a 1 star rating when the TV has a lot of other features.

have you ever heard about HDMI? :)
